Join us for our March membership meeting - Discover your Motivation with comedian David Horning

In a 2015 Gallup survey, only 32% of Americans reported feeling engaged at work.

Harvard researcher David Perkins has concluded that 90% of thinking errors are errors of perception. Is there a correlation? Think, for a moment, about how you and your team see routine tasks at work, problems, and conflict management. If you were to perceive work as a mission, problems as opportunities to grow, and conflict as the chance to build relationships, how would work change?

Discover Your Motivation inspires new perspectives of yourself, your obstacles and others through a funny and engaging presentation style utilizing characters, comedy, and audience participation. Learn how your perceptions create your results and what you can do to leverage the way you think, feel, and act to create a workplace culture that excites and engages you and those around you to improve performance and results.

    Objectives:

    1. Implement a self-assessment program to take personal accountability of results

    2. Transform problems and conflict into opportunities for growth through the use of perspective

    3. Develop a personal mission statement to serve as guidance in the decision-making process

    4. Create a collective sense of flow and meaning at work through simple culture-altering policies focused on service

    5. Enhance trust, strengthen interpersonal connection, and transform culture by building relationships instead of managing conflict

    About David

With a degree in political science from the University of Akron, David Horning took the next logical step and moved to New York City to pursue a career in comedy. In 2012, he studied sketch and improvisational comedy at Amy Poehler’s Upright Citizens’ Brigade, where he performed on stage multiple times. He performed his signature character comedy at clubs around the city, wrote and produced a number of video sketches, including one featured on the homepage of Will Ferrell’s humor website, Funny or Die. In August of 2014 he brought a group of writers and performers together to produce a live sketch comedy show called “Laundry Day,” featured at Carolines on Broadway in Times Square. After only two performances, the show was selected to help kick off the 2014 New York Comedy Festival, but life in the New York comedy scene wasn’t exactly as fulfilling as David hoped, tough it led him on his current path.

After being floored by the fact that only 32% of people are engaged at work, David decided to leave New York to set out on a mission inspiring happiness and engagement as a motivational speaker. Combining his skills in character comedy, his passion for positive psychology, and the ambition to make the world a happier place, David has put together speaking programs that have brought laughter, inspiration, and learning to service organizations, colleges, and businesses across the country. He has been a featured speaker at regional conferences in New York, Illinois, and Indiana, and at the Garden State SHRM Conference in 2016. David’s mission is to inspire in others the same excitement, happiness, and meaning that inspires him each day, so in addition to reaching more people through speaking, he continues to write and produce video sketches, his blog, The ‘H’ is for Horning, and his first book, Find the Funny: Create Comedy, Create Character(s), due later in 2017.
