Preventing Workplace Violence: A Look at Employer Obligations and Effective Policies & Procedures
with Kyle Abraham and Josephine Ko of Barran Liebman
Incidents of workplace violence are an unfortunate reality. The question is not “will an incident occur?” but “where will the next incident occur?” If an incident were to occur at your place of work, do you and your employees know how to respond?
Employers may not possess the power to fix the social forces contributing to workplace violence, but through responsible policies they can control and mitigate the effect of workplace violence. In fact, employers even have some legal responsibility to do so. Laws require employers to establish programs for high-risk occupations, and high-profile litigation shows the industry standard of care is still evolving. This presentation is intended to provide attendees with a broad understanding of legal principles surrounding workplace violence as well as key components of an effective workplace violence prevention policy.
